MEVA Announces Club Tryouts for Sunday, November 11th, 2018 from 2:30 PM to 4:30 PM Details inside!

MEVA will hold competitive tryouts for 14 Regional, 15 Regional and 16 Regional teams on Sunday, November 11th, 2017 from 2:30 PM to 4:30 PM at Fair Play in Morgantown.  The facility address is:  1878 Fairchance Rd, Morgantown, WV 26508

# 1.

How do I know if my daughter is eligible to try out for MEVA?

Know her USA Volleyball Age before registration. For USAV purposes, players are considered at the age THEY WILL BE on September 1, 2019.

OVR allows “Grade Level” teams.  However, MEVA intends to compete in competitive play outside of OVR.  Due to this, we do not intend to support any “Grade-Level” teams this season.  All of our teams will be based on the traditional USAV volleyball age definitions.  We will consider allowing younger players to "play up" if they have the appropriate skills necessary to participate at a higher level.

Athletes should attend tryouts and participate based on the following USA Volleyball age classifications:

"Traditional" USAV Definition

14 & Under             Born on or after Sept. 1st, 2004

15 & Under             Born on or after Sept. 1st, 2003

16 & Under             Born on or after Sept. 1st, 2002

# 2.  (Register with MEVA).

Register on MEVA's website with the appropriate age division on the 2018-2019 MEVA Travel Team Program by providing the requested information and paying the $15 tryout fee.  Registrations will open on Friday, October 19th at 6 PM and remain open until Saturday, November 3rd at 5 PM.

After creating an account, you will need to add your daughter as a participant.

After you input the requested information, the final step of tryout registration is paying the $15 fee.  Tryout fees will not be accepted at the door.

# 3 (Before the Tryout).

Renew or Register as a New member with USA Volleyball/OVR. At minimum, your child must have the $10 USA Volleyball Tryout Membership.  This fee is separate from MEVA’s tryout fee and goes directly to USA Volleyball.  You MUST bring a copy of your USA Volleyball/OVR membership card to tryouts. Athletes who do not have this will not be able to tryout.  No exceptions!

A link to the USA Volleyball/OVR Membership registration site is found under the “Helpful Links” section on MEVA’s website.

# 4 (Before the Tryout).

Complete the OVR medical release form. Please print out and bring a completed copy to tryouts. Please be sure to complete all 3 signatures! Player, parent/guardian, AND authorization or non-authorization for emergency medical/dental care. Be sure not to leave ANY field BLANK.  Athletes who do not have this will not be able to tryout.  No exceptions!

A link to the form can be found under the “Helpful Links” section on MEVA’s website.

# 5 (The Actual Tryout).

How will I be evaluated at tryouts?
Tryouts will not be run the same as a training session. We will not be teaching any volleyball technique; only evaluating skills, over-all athletic ability, and attitude. All athletes will go through a group warm-up.  We are evaluating general athletic ability as well as potential to be a good teammate. Near the end of tryouts, we may place athletes on a court together for more match-like situations. Athletes may be grouped together for a variety of reasons, not limited to strictly volleyball skills. These groups are not necessarily an indication of who will receive offers to join the club.

Before you leave, be sure to try on the uniforms for sizing. A club representative will make any adjustments to information previously submitted regarding jersey sizing.

# 6 (The Invitation).

How do I know if I made a team?
After tryouts have concluded, club officials will put together the offers. Each tryout participant will receive an email if/when an offer is extended.   Do not send to the Club an email asking for the status of your daughter’s invitation.

What happens if I make a team?
The next step is to accept your offer. Athletes who are invited to participate in our Travel program will receive an email with a MEVA Player Contract in their offer email. Follow the steps in your offer email to complete the acceptance steps.

In addition, if you opted for the USA Volleyball Tryout Membership, you will need to upgrade to the full membership and associate your membership with Mountaineer Elite Volleyball Academy.
The Athlete will also be required to obtain a Youth Athlete Extended (AB) Membership with AAU (Amateur Athletic Union).   Please associate your daughter's membership with MEVA - our club code is WY7C7T.   The annual AAU membership cost is $16.  A link to the AAU Membership options can be found under the “Helpful Links” section on MEVA’s website.  Print a copy of the membership card to bring to the kickoff meeting.

Our club will strive to develop young players in a fun, friendly, yet competitive environment.  However, please understand that specific positions and playing time are not guaranteed with any offer to join MEVA and that the number of teams is subject to change based on the number of players accepted and availability of a qualified coach.   MEVA requires a minimum of eight players per team and will not exceed twelve players per team.

What happens if I don't make a team?
Athletes who are not immediately offered a position in the club may be placed on the "Call Back List". We will begin emailing athletes from this list to make offers as soon as positions become available. MEVA will also be offering a winter training program, so athletes not invited to participate in a travel team will still have an opportunity to train with us.

# 7 (The Kickoff Meeting).

Parents and Athletes who will play on a MEVA Travel Team must attend the Parent/Player Kickoff Meeting on Sunday, December 9, 2018. at 2:30 PM.  Further details will be provided when the offer is accepted.

Parents should download the USA Volleyball Waiver and Release of Liability/Code of Conduct form from MEVA's website.  A link to the form can be found under the “Helpful Links” section on MEVA’s website.

You must bring the signed MEVA Player Contract, the AAU Membership Card copy, the completed USA Volleyball Waiver and Release of Liability/Code of Conduct form, and a physician certified Student-Athlete-Physical Exam Form (a link to an acceptable form can be found under the “Helpful Links” section on MEVA’s website) to this meeting.  MEVA's receipt of these four documents is absolutely required for participation in MEVA's program.  There will be no exceptions.

# 8 (The Financial Detail and Payment Schedules).

How much do the teams cost and what are the schedules for this season?
It is intended that each team will practice two times per week for two hours each session at a facility in the Morgantown area.  Teams will play in 6 to 8 regional tournaments and the OVR Regional Championships in Columbus, Ohio.

The cost to participate on a MEVA travel team will be $1,028 if paid via Credit Card or $1,000 if paid by check/cash.  Each invited/accepted participant will be issued two jerseys that will remain club property.  The jerseys must be returned at the end of the season.

  • 25% of the fee will be due at contract acceptance.
  • 25% of the fee will be due by the Player/Parent Kickoff Meeting
  • 50% of the fee will be due by the first practice in January.  Participants that have not paid the fees in full will not be allowed to practice or receive jerseys or a volleyball.

Parents should anticipate costs in addition to the MEVA fees for such things as equipment (shoes, knee pads, spandex, etc.) for the athlete, travel expenses to and from practice and tournaments, and fan/spirit wear.
